”So that the sower and the reaper may be glad together”

36 Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. 37 Thus the saying ‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.38 I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”
John4:36−38

“ The sower” means the prophets in the OT ,who were called for fruitless works but they worked earnestly and offered even their lives. When Isaiah touched the presence of God, being overwhelmed by his own sin God redeemed him. He heard the voice of the Lord, ”Whom shall we send and who will go for us.” And Isaiah replied,” Here am I. Send me.”
But what kind of ministry was he given from the Lord? The Lord said to him,

“Go and tell this people:
“‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
make their ears dull
and close their eyes.[a]
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts,
and turn and be healed.”
“Until the cities lie ruined
and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
and the fields ruined and ravaged…

What a terrible ministry it was! But Isaiah worked for God and died. Because Jesus knew Isaiah's labor, He thought that His disciples were very happy and said,” I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor.”

Nineteen years ago I began to evangelize this area, Minamisaku-gun. The first fruit was the young woman whose mother had heard the gospel when she was a little child from the missionaries from Canada after the World War II.

I worked with an old missionary from Canada whose name was Morris Jacobsen for four years. One day he said, “When we landed Yokohama in Showa24, Yokohama and Tokyo were burnt-out areas. We began Japanese lessons and our ministry in Nagano prefecture. Every weekend we went to every town and every village with a big tent in which we gave evangelical meetings. But the hearts of people in Nagano were so hard that we had to leave there with dissapointment.

After about fifty years the Lord sent me to this place, and permitted me to lead some people to Him. I would like to say to the missionaries and evangelists,” Please be glad with me”, because Jesus said,” so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. “

While I have worked here nineteen years, about1360000 tracts were distributed. A small church have been born, and God gave us a little but beautiful church building on the hill of Koumi-town. The crop is not great but I believe it is a meaningful ministry because one person's life is heavier than the earth. I want to work here believing that other evangelists will reap a great crop in the future.
