報道されている米国フロリダの教会の牧師の９.11コーラン焼却集会という暴挙計画に対して、私どもの属する教団の「教会と国家」委員会委員長から反対声明が緊急に出され、一般紙、キリスト教紙に発送された。英文は米国のChristianity Todayに送られた。掲載されるか否かは各紙の判断である。

米国フロリダ州の教会「ダブ・ワールド・アウトリーチ・センター」が米国同時多発テロ9年目にあたる9月11日にイスラム教の聖典コーランを焼却する集会を呼びかけて、大きな波紋を広げています。9日段階で同教会はこの計画の中止を発表しましたが、イスラム排撃の主張に変わりはないようです。私たち日本同盟基督教団「教会と国家」委員会はここに同教会の行動を深く憂慮し、反対の意志をあらわします。
宗教が自らの信ずる真理を追究するものである以上、その確信に基づいて行動する自由は保障されるべきです。しかしながら今回の問題はイスラム教に対する偏見と憎悪の感情に動かされたものであり、独善的で排他的なものと言わなければなりません。
キリスト教信仰における「愛」は、寛容と親切、善意と誠実に支えられたものです。それは同じ信仰の立場にある人々にのみ限定される態度ではなく、他宗教に属する人々に対しても向けられるものであり、立場においては自らの確信を持ちつつも、態度においては異なる立場を理解する寛容さと謙虚さとが求められるでしょう。
もとより聖書の語る福音は赦しと和解の福音です。他者を攻撃し、排斥するところからはさらなる対立が生まれることはあっても真の和解は生まれません。今回の出来事を通して世界各地で不幸な宗教的対立が生じることなく、再びこのような計画が繰り返されることのないように願います。

The Dove World Outreach Center, a Florida Church, is seriously shocking the world by stating their plan to meet on 9/11 to burn the Quran; as the USA commemorates the ninth year of the “September 11” (2001). Although the church announced on 9/9 that they will not burn the Quran, they seemingly continue to insist on their anti-Muslim philosophy. We, the Church and State Committee of the Japan Alliance Christ Church, are seriously concerned with this issue and declare here our contrary intention.
Since each religion seeks the truth believed by its believers, we should secure the freedom for each religion to act on its belief. This issue is motivated by the feelings of prejudice and abhorrence toward Muslims and we should recognize it as such.
“Love” in the Christian belief is characterized with generosity, kindness, good intentions and sincerity. Therefore, our love should not be limited to those on the same belief, but given to even those who believe other religions. While firmly holding fast to our own beliefs, we should be generous and humble in our attitude to understand other standpoints or beliefs.
Needless to say, the gospel proclaimed in the Bible is the gospel of forgiveness and reconciliation. If we attack and reprobate other religions, the result would be further confrontation, and no reconciliation. We sincerely pray that this incidence time will not cause any sad confrontations around the world, and that this plan will not be pursued in the future.
